UST Inc. Engineers Have Developed Eco-Friendly Transport for Sanatoriums
Logistics in resort areas is a complex challenge. Roads require land appropriation, and conventional transport becomes a constant source of noise and emissions. This issue is particularly acute for health resorts, where peace, clean air, and nature are highly valued. Specialists at UST Inc. have addressed this problem by designing a unique transport and infrastructure complex for a sanatorium located in a national park by a lake.
Transport Without Harming Nature
The uST string rail overpass has minimal environmental impact compared to other transport systems. A cable car, for example, operates continuously, generating a constant noise background and lacking station stops — an inconvenience for elderly and mobility-impaired guests. Funiculars and narrow-gauge railways are also unsuitable, as their construction requires deforestation and territorial fragmentation.
Access to the station is provided via a covered gallery, which is especially convenient for sanatorium guests. They can travel even in robes and slippers – an extra touch of comfort.
For the sanatorium’s management, which aims to become a leader in wellness services and hospitality standards, this was a crucial consideration.
Innovation in the Service of Wellness
The complex includes an overpass, automated control system, and a passenger module – the U5 542-20 uBus. This unmanned electric vehicle on steel wheels carries up to six passengers. Its interior is designed for comfort and relaxation, featuring panoramic windows, soft seating, multimedia systems, and accessibility for passengers with limited mobility.
The route runs above a pine forest, with the journey taking about two minutes. An autonomous system controls operations, with a dispatcher needed only for monitoring.
The vehicle is equipped with balancing bogies for even load distribution and supercapacitors that deliver high power in a compact size and weight. The service life of the uBus is up to 20 years (500,000 km of operation).
The Future Is Near
This project will become a model of eco-friendly transport in resort settings. It brings to life the concept of a “horizontal elevator” proposed by Anatoli Unitsky, the founder of UST Inc. This type of string transport can be integrated into buildings and urban infrastructure, enabling mobility between complexes or even skyscrapers without stepping outside.
